How One Local Professional is Getting Connected After Moving to Orlando
One of my favorite places to meet up for coffee and talk shop has been Easy Luck Coffee and Bodega off E. South Street in Orlando. The atmosphere, vibe and coffee is right up my alley and the location is easy to get to right from the 408.
I was meeting up with Beau Bennett, who moved here in November to hear how his transition from Utah to Orlando has been. Since connecting with him at MetaCenter Global Week, Beau has been super active online making a consistent effort to connect with local professionals and build community. With all the effort he’s been making I wanted to hear what’s been working for him.
Beau shared his story of meeting his (now) fiancée online during the pandemic. At the time Beau had been working at an international non-profit that helped entrepreneurs in countries like Africa and others.
When one of his friends mentioned their company, RevRoad, had plans to open in Florida, Beau approached them with the idea of making him that guy. It was an opportunity for him to be with his girlfriend while also doing something he loved; working with entrepreneurs.
RevRoad is a venture services firm. They essentially take a VC and an agency and marry the two together. Beau says they are your sweat equity partner to help you grow and scale your business.
Now 4 months in Orlando, Beau has been able to start building the connections that make Orlando home. His approach has been made with purpose but also with patience. Here are 4 things that have stood out to him as being the most helpful from both a personal and professional experience.
- Find people who are well connected and aware of things going on.
- Get out and go to events/conferences.
- Take deliberate action to invite others to lunch, dinners, events etc.
- Find people with common ground and talk about things outside of work.
It’s not always easy to pick up and move to a new state or city, and Orlando is definitely no stranger to transplants. But to truly make Orlando home, community and opportunity are at the core of living a high quality life.
