Corny, Campy, and Completely Charming: A Night with Shucked

What do you get when you mix musical theater with corny dad jokes, small-town charm, and a whole lot of heart? You get Shucked, a Broadway comedy that pokes fun at itself while delivering an unexpectedly fun and interactive experience.

Ella Snyder and her mom, Danielle, caught the show and loved its unique approach. From breaking the fourth wall with clever narrators to sneaking in mini stand-up bits mid-dialogue, Shucked surprised and delighted. “It was like Music Man meets Oklahoma, but with comedy,” Danielle said. After the show, the cast Q&A gave them a closer look into the performers’ personalities, adding a special human touch to an already memorable evening.

The show doesn’t take itself too seriously and that’s kind of the charm. It’s playful, weird, and full of unexpected laughs. Ella said, “I’ve never seen anything like that before, I'm glad I went”

Shucked is currently running at the Dr. Phillips Center’s Walt Disney Theater from June 24–29.
