AVALON Secures $10 Million to Launch Ambitious MMO Game

AVALON, an independent game studio launched out of Orlando in 2021, has secured a substantial $10 million investment to bring their ambitious massively multiplayer online game, also named "AVALON," to life. This funding round saw contributions from prominent investors including BITKRAFT Ventures and HASHED as co-leaders, with additional support from Coinbase Ventures, Spartan Capital, Foresight Ventures, LiquidX, and Momentum6.

Sean Pinnock, Founder and CEO of AVALON is an Orlando native whose love for gaming started at a very young age. He made his first game as he was graduating college, called Blacksea Odyssey. Built out of his mom’s basement, It was released on XBOX, Playstation, Switch and Steam and while it provided some modest success, the experience taught him a lot about the gaming industry.

Sean would go on to launch CyberDream in 2016 out of his passion for VR, building Virtual Battlegrounds, a game that reached #2 on Steam.

With a strong desire to do something that would change the world, Sean moved on from CyberDream to start AVALON with a team who shared the same desire.

The studio is made up of veteran developers from leading companies such as Microsoft, Sony, Capcom, Infinity Ward, and Ubisoft, known for their extensive background in creating AAA titles. Their expertise spans across various genres including MMO RPGs, adventure games, and competitive shooters, with notable projects like EverQuest, Call of Duty, and Assassin’s Creed under their belts.

AVALON stands out as a next-generation MMO game designed to blur the lines between web2 and web3 gaming platforms. It promises a novel approach to gaming where players can not only interact with characters and environments in unprecedented ways but also carry their achievements and assets from one world to another seamlessly. This interoperability is supported by cutting-edge technologies such as Unreal Engine 5 and AI tools from partnerships with Didimo and Inworld AI.

Slated for release on PC and through cloud streaming, AVALON is gearing up for a closed early access phase later this year. As development continues, you can follow AVALON’s progress through its official website and social media updates. This large-scale project represents a bold step towards a more interactive and interconnected gaming future and further showcases the innovation that thrives here in Orlando.
