Following the sound, Orlando street photographer stumbles into Orlando Mural Festival

            Published September 20, 2025

Orlando photographer Kevin Lorenzo was out with a friend on Thursday night doing photography in downtown Orlando when they heard music in the distance and the buzz of a crowd. Following the sound, they ended up on Pine Street where they found the 2nd annual Orlando Mural Festival going on, an event they weren’t aware of when they set out for their night of street photography.

At the event murals were being painted live, vendors lined the block, and inside CityArts a new Third Thursday exhibit featured 1960s inspired art and political pieces.

Kevin struck up conversations with artists, including longtime film photographer John Baker, who teaches darkroom courses at the Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park. Across the way, the Red Tape gallery pulsed with underground energy, DJs spinning, visuals projected on the walls, and a crowd dancing late into the night.

What began as a night of casual street photography became an unexpected dive into Orlando’s creative heartbeat.

Kevin shot the festival on a Minolta X-700 with a 28mm f/2.8 lens, using Phoenix 2, the newest film from British company Harman, one of the only companies still experimenting with fresh film stocks.

“The murals, the music, and the people created an atmosphere that felt alive and connected,” Kevin said.

The experience opened Kevin’s eyes to the depth of the local arts scene, and now he’s planning to come back for more. “I was just documenting the vibe,” he said. “We stumbled across it, but it made me want to keep checking out more CityArts and Red Tape Orlando events.”
